Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have moved up one place in the latest FIBA World Ranking, rising to 52nd in the world while keeping their position as the eighth-ranked team in Africa.
The improvement comes after Nigeria recorded one win and two defeats in their latest window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers.
Nigeria endure mixed qualifying window
D’Tigers suffered defeats against Cameroon and South Sudan before ending the window on a positive note with a victory over Cape Verde.
Despite winning only one of the three games, the results were enough for Nigeria to climb one place in the global standings.
D’Tigers remain eighth in Africa
While Nigeria improved internationally, their position on the continental table remained unchanged.
The team is still ranked eighth in Africa, underlining the competitive nature of men’s basketball across the continent.
South Sudan remain Africa’s top team
South Sudan continue to lead the African rankings.
The Bright Stars sit 24th in the world and first in Africa, maintaining their position as the continent’s highest-ranked men’s national basketball team.

Nigeria will now look to build on the slight ranking improvement as preparations continue for the remaining stages of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers.
