Edo Queens have been rewarded with N50 million after winning the 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League.
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo announced the cash reward during a reception held for the team in Benin City after their successful campaign in Burkina Faso.
Edo Queens receive hero’s welcome
The players and officials returned home to a warm reception and took part in a victory parade from Airport Road to Osadebe Avenue before meeting the governor.
Okpebholo praised the team’s resilience, determination and fighting spirit, highlighting their ability to overcome a difficult final.
Governor promises continued support
The governor also assured the players that the state government would continue to support and reward the team while creating more opportunities for their development.
Edo Queens beat Ampem Darkoa on penalties
Edo Queens defeated Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4-1 on penalties in the final played in Ouagadougou.
The match finished 2-2 after regulation time, forcing the contest into a penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper plays key role in final
Okpebholo singled out the Edo Queens goalkeeper for praise after a crucial save during the shootout helped swing the momentum in the Nigerian side’s favour.
CAF Women’s Champions League qualification secured
By winning the regional tournament, Edo Queens have qualified to represent the WAFU B zone at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The achievement gives the Nigerian champions another opportunity to compete against some of the strongest women’s clubs on the continent.

The N50 million reward recognises a major success for Edo Queens and Nigerian women’s football.
