Nigerian heavyweight boxer Enobong “The Nigerian Gentleman” Umohette has recorded the 20th victory of his professional career after defeating Colombian veteran Fidel “Infierno” Munoz by unanimous decision.
The eight-round contest took place at the Santa Marta Sports Complex in Colombia, where Umohette also successfully defended his UBC South American regional title.
Umohette controls tactical contest
Munoz entered the fight with extensive experience, having competed in more than 80 professional bouts and recorded 35 knockout victories.
The Colombian used movement in an attempt to frustrate Umohette, but the Nigerian controlled the centre of the ring, applied pressure and consistently landed the cleaner punches.
Unanimous decision for Nigerian heavyweight
All three judges scored the fight in favour of Umohette, giving him a clear unanimous decision victory.
The result extended his winning streak to 11 consecutive fights and improved his professional record to 20 wins and three defeats.
Victory ends seven-fight knockout streak
Umohette’s promoter, Erik Fleming, described the bout as an important test of the heavyweight’s ability to compete over longer distances.
Before facing Munoz, Umohette had won seven consecutive fights by knockout, while his previous eight-round contest had come in Mexico in 2023.
Promoter praises Umohette’s endurance
Fleming said the fight was useful in assessing whether Umohette could maintain his level over eight, 10 and 12 rounds without becoming overly dependent on early stoppages.
He also praised the Santa Marta boxing commission for delivering a unanimous decision despite Munoz competing in front of his home crowd.
European heavyweight champion could be next
Discussions are now expected to begin over a possible fight between Umohette and European heavyweight champion Labinot Xhoxhaj.
Such a bout would represent another major step in the Nigerian boxer’s career as he continues to climb the heavyweight ranks.

The victory in Colombia further strengthens Umohette’s comeback, with the heavyweight now riding an 11-fight winning streak.
