Promising Nigerian boxer Jamiu Adeniji has been crowned Best Boxer at the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame (LBHF) Ibile Divisional Championships held at the Ikorodu Town Hall.
The event featured 10 bouts and continued the LBHF’s long-running grassroots boxing development programme in Lagos.
Adeniji dominates 50kg contest
Representing Agboyi Ketu LCDA, Adeniji faced Wahab Adiat of Ikorodu West LCDA in the men’s 50kg category.
The young boxer controlled the contest from the opening round, using sharp jabs and uppercuts to dominate his opponent.
Unanimous victory earns top honour
Adeniji secured a 5-0 unanimous decision, with all five judges scoring the bout in his favour.
His performance was enough to earn him the Boxer of the Tournament award.
Adeniji targets Nigeria national team
Following his victory, Adeniji expressed his ambition to take his career to the next level and represent Nigeria in international competitions.
He also praised the organisers and said he hopes to maintain his strong form ahead of the end-of-year LBHF tournament.
LBHF praises growing interest
LBHF Director David Mohammed praised the turnout in Ikorodu and said the Ibile format is attracting increasing interest across Lagos.
He added that the programme continues to produce talented boxers who could eventually earn places in Nigeria’s national teams.
Women’s division also produces strong performances
The championship also featured several competitive women’s bouts.
Aishat Yisa defeated Abisola Agbolade 4-1 in the women’s 50kg category, while Oyindamola Kuseju beat Basirat Kelani by the same score in the 54kg division.
LBHF continues grassroots boxing development
The Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame project, founded in 2009, remains one of Nigeria’s longest-running grassroots amateur boxing initiatives.
With Adeniji emerging as the standout boxer in Ikorodu, the competition once again highlighted the depth of young boxing talent developing across Lagos.
