Trabzonspor interim coach Hüseyin Çimşir has played down concerns over the fitness of Paul Onuachu after the Nigerian striker picked up an injury during the club’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Onuachu was one of the standout performers in the match, scoring twice before being forced off shortly before half-time.
Onuachu scores twice before injury
The Super Eagles striker opened the scoring after just five minutes before doubling Trabzonspor’s advantage in the 22nd minute.
However, his impressive performance was cut short when he suffered an injury and was substituted in the 44th minute, with new signing Franculino Djú replacing him.
Coach says injury is not serious
Despite the early substitution, Çimşir expressed confidence that Onuachu’s injury will not keep him out for long.
The Trabzonspor coach said he does not believe there is a serious problem and expects the forward to be available for the club’s next match.
Onuachu ends goal drought
The brace was particularly important for Onuachu, who had gone five matches in all competitions without scoring before facing Gençlerbirliği.
The goals were his first two in the Turkish league this season, coming in his fourth league appearance.
Important player for Trabzonspor
Onuachu remains one of Trabzonspor’s key attacking options after an impressive previous campaign in which he finished as joint-top scorer in the Süper Lig with 22 goals.
His fitness will therefore be closely monitored as the club continues its domestic campaign.
Trabzonspor prepare for Konyaspor
Trabzonspor’s next league fixture will be away against Konyaspor.
With Çimşir confident that the injury is minor, the club will hope Paul Onuachu can recover in time and continue the scoring form he rediscovered against Gençlerbirliği.
