Thomas Tuchel rejects Premier League requests for special player treatment
England manager Thomas Tuchel has taken a firm stance against club interference, declaring he will refuse all calls from Premier League managers seeking "special favours" regarding player availability. As the national team prepares for a crucial stretch of UEFA Nations League fixtures, Tuchel dismissed the notion of granting rest to his squad as "madness."
Firm stance on international availability
The England boss, currently preparing his side for a match against the Czech Republic in Prague, addressed the challenges of managing player workloads. Following a 3-2 defeat to Spain, which saw five key players withdraw from the squad, Tuchel emphasized that he has no intention of accommodating club-level requests to rotate or rest stars during the international window.
"No, I don’t take calls from Premier League managers. I never called any national team coach," Tuchel stated. He argued that allowing players to step back or skip matches would send the wrong message about the team's commitment. "Why would I start giving the players the impression that it’s OK to take a step back or share a half or to rest one match? Why would I? I would never. It’s madness. We want to win the next match."

Tuchel remains focused on the immediate need for a positive result in Prague. Despite the recent setback against Spain, the manager maintains that his team was performing well until a pivotal moment involving captain Harry Kane. He noted that had Kane not slipped during his penalty attempt at 2-1, the outcome of the match could have been significantly different.
"If Harry doesn’t slip we win the game," Tuchel insisted. "We were clearly the better team until that moment in the second half and we win that game." While he acknowledged the pressure to bounce back, he expressed confidence in his squad's ability to handle the challenge.
